It's A Wrap!!!!

Ladies and Gentlemen, let the contest go on no further, THE HOT JAM OF THE MONTH HAS ALREADY BEEN DECIDED!!

Every once in a while a bangin' song comes around that has to get the nod from me, and this month definitely falls under that category. Beating out such stiff competition as Fly Like A G6 - Far East Movement, Teach Me How To Dougie Remix, Right Above It by Lil Wayne ft. Drizzy, and King Without A Crown by Matisyahu, this might have been the toughest competition yet to win!

But without further ado, the months winner goes to Cam'ron and Vado with their song Speakin in Tungs! You can't tell me the instrumental on that isn't mental, it's just sikk wit it.

Oh and Geoff, Conner, and Trish are coming up !! Ready to rep NH and get buckwild homiee

The Once and Future King

There's always been a passage in The Once and Future King that has struck me as being extremely sad. Specifically, it is when Merlin, a wizard cursed to live his life "backwards" (His life started at the end of "our" time, and he grows older as the years fall off) meets with young "Wart" (the future King Arthur).

As Wart comes out of the woods looking for Cully, the Hawk which he lost, he comes upon Merlin for the first time. After about 30 minutes go by, and introductions of course, Merlin goes on to explain how he lives living backwards while most live forwards.

"He [Merlin] stopped talking and looked at the Wart in an anxious way.
'Have I told you this before?'
'No, we only met about a half hour ago.'
'So little time to pass?' said Merlin, and a big tear ran down to the end of his nose. He wiped it off with his pajamas..."

Like, being deadass serious, that sucks huge balls. Goodbyes are hard enough when you've known someone your whole life, and here comes Merlin who has to say goodbye to a boy who has technically never even met him. It's horrible, gets me every time. Seriously, I just have to read that passage and I'm in some big philosophical mood all night, it's terrible.

Just my two cents.

Chelsea

Ohhhhhhhh shizzzz

Who else is gettin' spooked by Chelsea FC's performances in recent weeks? Two 6-0 victories!?!?!

Given, the teams they played are pretty terrible, but gotta shout out some respect to the current champs, they're really not playing around.

Here's to hoping they get knocked off their perch.

Yezzirr

What a great week man. Started off with a little mancave action, then hit up some Rhode Island beaching, Manchester United kicked the season off with a classy 3-0 performance, all around good times haha. Oh, and I was sunburned like crazy after we went to Brownstone Park (fail). But otherwise a really nice week.

I just brought John to the airport a couple hours ago, and to be honest...I'm in total college mode. Drake, Conner, and John all start classes this Monday (wowwwwww) and slowly the friends are going back leaving me chillen like a villain in North Haven.

Here's my remaining checklist for college:
1- Alcohol lolz
2- A rug for the room
3- Look for some nice beer pong tables
4- Raincoat
5- Pair of Jeans
6- Febreeze

Not bad, not bad. Also, very eagerly awaiting the return of DC ++ which is basically like a legal limewire at UConn, gotta get my jamz nig nack!

Friday the 13th

I shall be pickin' up my boi John Manni tomorrow!! Thus kicking off the end of Summer 2010, but if it must end, let it end with a bang.

Preferably with a little sushi in there too. Volcano Rolls FTW!!!

Also, word from Prospect says that Kathryn is now living in a single room at North! (Which for those of you unfamiliar with the UConn campus is a 5 minute walk from Garrigus Suites, where yours truly shall be residing) Hollaaaaaaa the Piccolo clan is reuniting at UConn, lookout Storrs!!!

Chemin it up next term

So I finally got my schedule all figured out!!

That's right folks, after spending 3 months trying to switch classes in and out and making room for things, my classes next year look like this:

-Econ (3)
-Sociology (3)
-Chemistry (4)
-Animal Science (3)

Woottt. Also keep in mind that if my nutrition class opens up that wil be going in there too, and if not then I'm gonna put in some joke jiu-jitsu class to get some more credits. I figure since I have the chem book, I might as well do some refreshing before the semester begins when I'm bored out of my mind at North Haven on all days other than Thursday.

Soooo yeah just getting ready to go back to UConn, I am in some serious withdrawal from going to their soccer games. Lets goooooo

Lolz

So many of you who read this blog (assuming the term "many" can be applied to the handful of delightful followers of the Husky Nation Blog) may be thinking something along the lines of 'nice job on that World Cup coverage Steve, reallyyyyy comprehensive.'

Yeahhhhhhhh my bust kinda dropped the ball on that one...

But fret not! Yah homeboi is back and I'm feenin' for some updates!

I figure I should get back in the swing of things before this upcoming year, so I thought I'd pop in. I am very full, due to the massive amounts of BoOm-BaNgIn sushi I just ate at sushi palace. Deliberating going for a three mile run later to initiate swag release level four for the next few days. Annnnnnnnd maybe I'll throw in some fifa later.

Boom. Headshot.

Day 4 of the World Cup

Day Four of the World Cup is already here, making some steady progress through the group stage!

Here is my take on the day.

Netherlands vs Denmark
Result: 2-0 (Agger 45' [og], Kuyt 84')

- Of course, the Netherlands dominated possession throughout the game like they inevitably do, but the first half was mainly just possession for possession's sake. It never really amounted to any good chances because Denmark had time to set their defense up, which becomes tough to break down against an organized opponent. Elia, who I thought should have started, changed the tempo of the game by making excellent runs down the wing and taking defenders on, which led to the second goal. Poor luck by Denmark on the first goal, but they can build on this. They performed better than the scoreline indicated and should do alright from now on having played the best team in the group.

Japan vs Cameroon
Result: 1-0 (Honda 38') <-- lmao

-Really Cameroon? What is with these African teams choking on their home soil! Japan is a very mediocre team. They pinched a goal off a calm finish by "Honda" lmao, and then proceeded to park the team bus in front of the goal. The African side made various attempts at equalizing (one thrashing shot in particular had the posts rattling for a good minute afterwards) but could do nothing to break the stout Japanese defense. Who needs the Great Wall of China anyways? Cameroon needs to work on putting better service into the box, it seemed like no one was winning headers in that third of the pitch.

Predicted Finish for Group E
1) Netherlands - 9 points
2) Denmark - 4 points
3) Japan - 3 points
4) Cameroon - 1 points

Thoughts:
Cameroon really hurt themselves by dropping points to Japan, and that might spell disaster for them unless they can maybe tie with the Dutch and beat Denmark. The problem is that both teams they have left to play are more quality sides than what they already lost to, so we shall see how they do.

Italy vs Paraguay
Result: 1-1 Draw (Alcaraz 38', De Rossi 62')

- Wow Italy, how far have you fallen! Buffon is hurt, and Pirlo is out, leaving a huge lack of creativity in the midfield. I was really dissapointed with this effort, they just seemed very slow and predictable for much of the game. Even when Paraguay scored it didn't seem to wake up the Italians. But, the Italians know how to win so let's not discount their ability to play gritty, ugly football and get through to the group stage. They've been blessed with a particularly easy group so this shouldn't be the end of the road for them. Paraguay looked alright, was impressed on their first goal where their tiny defender, bound for West Ham United, won an outrageous header through two men. Class.

Day 3 of the World Cup

Group C

Slovenia vs Algeria
Result: 1-0 (Koren 78')

I'm going to be honest here, I watched this game in spurts as it was on at 7 am. From what I did see, Slovenia looks like a pretty solid team, and Algeria looks like a team in shambles. Yet another gift from the Algerian goalie in Group C gave Slovenia the win, after letting the ball go in after it hit him in the chest. The US face a must win this friday.

Thoughts on Group C:
I'm actually not going to put my predicted finish up here, because I don't want to jinx my two teams!!

Ghana vs Serbia
Result: 1-0 (Gyan 83' penalty kick)

This game picked up quite a bit of quality from the Slovenia-Algeria game earlier. I was impressed with Ghana and thought they did deserve the win, however it was unfortunate that they could not take it in the field of play and had to rely on a late handball to win. It's a great result for all of Africa though, as they are the first African team to ever win on African soil in a World Cup. Not to say that Serbia played poorly, I actually thought they were really an impressive team too. They missed one golden opportunity to ice the game in the 80th minute playing with ten men, when the ball came across the 6 yard box right to a forward. However, he blasted it right at the keeper who did well to control it.

Germany vs Australia
Result: 4-0 (Podolski 7', Klose 25', Mueller 66', Cacau 69')

I was at work for the latter half of the game, but I didn't need to see much. Germany pwns, and Australia uber sucks lol. I think Germany had something like 90 percent completion rate of their passes which is illy. Honestly I wish Germany had drew with Australia because I hope them all the worst for this World Cup, but it wasn't to be. Australia is in a heap of trouble too because Tim Cahil, the Evertonian, was issued a red card so he's banned from the next match.

Thoughts on Group D
--This is probably the strongest overall group we've seen in the World Cup thusfar. Germany are favorites to win it after turning in the most impressive performance of the tournament, yet Ghana and Serbia both turned out to have solid defenses and enough firepower to make things interesting.

Predicted Finish :
1) Germany -- 7 points
2) Ghana -- 7 points
3) Serbia -- 3 points
4) Australia -- 0 points

USA vs England!

The most anticipated game and the one where I was most nervous was this one, the game of the first round! Truthfully, it would have pained me to see either team lose, because I desperately want to see both teams go through. The crew gathered at Bills to watch the game, and things got off to a rough start when England scored early. However, I can honestly say that when USA scored it was one of the best moments of my life, we went crazy lol!!!!!!!!!!! Heres my analysis:

USA vs England
Result: 1-1 Tie (Gerrard 3', Dempsey 39')
Thoughts: England's passing was quite clinical at times, but they lacked that final ball in the last third of the pitch. Rooney had flashes of being dangerous, but even with superb distribution his teammates couldn't get the game winner. Lennon looked quick on the wing, although they need to find a better winger to accompany him because Milner and Shaun Wright-Phillips both were bad. Coach Fabio Cappello was crazy not starting Peter Crouch or Jermain Defoe over Emile Heskey. The US was shaky to start but gradually grew more and more confident as the game grew, and were lucky to pull a draw out due to a completely lucky gift by the England Keeper. Had a chance to ice the game but were robbed the victory by the post, and I was really impressed with Jozy Altidore. He needed Edson Buddle or Hercules Gomez up top with him instead of Robbie Findley because Findley just cannot posses well. Great Result though!!

Day 2 of the World Cup Part 1

Today's matches proved more and more interesting as the day went on, as of course the USA was playing!!!! Let's start off with my takes on the early games

South Korea vs Greece
Result: 2-0 Win (Lee Jung-Soo 6', Park Ji-Sung 51')
Thoughts:
South Korea looked very creative! Their movement off the ball was pure class, though it was made to appear exponentially better since Greece looked as stagnant as a still pond. After watching that game, I can safely say that Greece is the worst team in this tournament. South Korea opened the scoring early with a nice cross over the heads of three Greeks, into the oncoming path of goalscorer Lee Jung-Soo. Later in the match, Manchester United man and captain of the squad Park Ji-Sung put things to bed with a clinical finish past the goalkeeper. It's unclear right now how good South Korea is, mainly because Greece is so terrible, but they won't be afraid to go against any competition.

Argentina vs Nigeria
Result: 1-0 Win (Heinze 5')
Thoughts:
Once again Manchester United, a club of superb quality might I add, produces another goalscorer. This time it's former United center defender Gabriel Heinze, who runs unmarked into the box off a corner and lazers a header into the underside of the bar. Argentina would go on to dominate possession and produce a lot of chances off of quick little cheeky passes around the box. Messi had eight shots on goal, of which maybe 3 should have went in if not for superb saves by the Nigerian stopper. They looked pretty dangerous, though lacked the killer instinct needed to kill this game.

Thoughts on Group B:
-Argentina proved to be the most dominant team of the day, with South Korea lurking closeby. Both international teams were impressive in their wins, however I will be interested to see whether a Nigerian team can nick a win off of South Korea and advance. Greece will remain in the cellar for this tournament.

Predicted Finish After First Round of Games:
1) Argentina - 9 points
2) Nigeria - 6 points (going out on a limb)
3) South Korea - 3 points
4) Greece - 0 points

Opening Ceremonies (and games)

South Africa vs Mexico
Result: 1-1 Draw (Tshabala 59'[RSA], Marquez 79' [Mex])

What a start to the tournament! Great stuff seeing the host nation somehow manage to score first after getting dominated in terms of possession by Mexico in the first half. Their defense from crosses coming in was really worrying and Mexico should have capitalized a few times the first half. South Africa's counters always looked dangerous though and it took a wonder-strike by the unknown Tshabala to draw first blood. Unfortunately Mexico took advantage of a serious defensive lapse of judgement by the South African captain and equalized it to settle the matter at a draw.

France vs Uruguay
Result: 0-0 Draw

Goodness me. What an awful game. On more than a few occasions it put myself and a few of my friends to spells of sleep. Uruguay played with five defenders and what looked like two extremely defensive minded center midfielders, forming an obstinate defense. From the start it was clear that they were looking for the draw, maybe stealing three points from a counter-attack by their powerful striker combination of Diego Forlan and Suarez. France came close on several occasions to breaking the deadlock, but never seemed to click as a team, leaving their best chances left up to individual efforts such as Gourcuff's free kick. The chance of the match had to be Forlan's miss inside the box when his teammate laid the ball off to him from a long throw-in. Didn't have the quality needed to grab the goal and effectively kill the match.

Thoughts on Group A
-Completely up for grabs, though Mexico looked most dangerous in terms of attacking football. I must say though, the gap between the best and worst team of this group is paper-thin. Next week will tell us a lot--a win would surely send the victors through to the knockout round.

Predicted finish after watching the games:
1. Mexico 7 points
2. South Africa 5 points
3. France 2 points
4. Uruguay 1 point

Fifa World Cup 2010 South Africa!!!

Lets get this party started!!!!

After what felt like a millennium, the world's greatest sporting event is finally back! And this time on African Soil! I was quite skeptical upon hearing that South Africa would host the cup, because let's face it who knew much about what they had to offer before this, but I have been impressed with the country's culture and overall aptitude at holding the games so far.

Good luck to England and the United States, and let's hope for some great goals, games, and match-ups!

Truly Random Musings

Sooo I started walkin out of my room yesterday to go to class, and I got some heartburn. I knew it wasn't serious, but at the same time I couldn't help but wonder...What if I died right here? In the hallways at Russell, at UConn.

That would suck.

Now I know that yeah, dying anywhere would suck lol but comeon, like really? In my hallways by our dorms? Like that's not the most scenic and serene place to pass hahaha. Just sayin. Maybe like during a soccer game or something would be nicer lolz. Just a random though o' the day

Allow me to reintroduce myself, I am the...

Ahhh, there's no better feeling than walking back to your dorm early in the morning with the sun shining, listening to some Michael Jackson songs off Thriller (specifically Baby Be Mine) knowing that you just kicked some serious ace on an exam you studied tenaciously for in the week leading up to it.

GOT EMMMM SON

Allow me to take a sigh of relief...ok I'm done. I have been MIA for the past couple days studying for my Calc and Nutrition Exams which were a total of 12 hours apart (one at 6:00 Wed. and one 8:00 am today). I haven't even updated in a while! Crap lol well the times are tough, and there's less than a month left of school so you know how it is!

Now I guess I have to look forward to...SPRING WEEKEND 2010!

April Fools

I've only been awake for the last fifty-five minutes and already I have been pranked at UConn. I gotta get on my game! Only a minor prank, someone printed out "University of Connecticut-please use the side entrance" on the front door of my nutrition building, so I happily obliged, only to get to the side entrance and see the same type of paper with an arrow to the front door saying "Please use the front entrance" lol.

Self Serve!

Those who know me well, know that I can be described by the word GULLIBLE. So April Fools Day and I tend to butt heads lol.

March Jam of the Month

Yea, Yea, Yea man this is ya boi Steve Moveyafeet and I'm about to hit you up with the March JAM OF THE MONTH. I'm talkin that playback track of the last four weeks son! That track you put in, listen to, then throw it in reverse and do it all over again. That Rinse, Wash and Repeat song, feel me??

We had some very tough competitors, but in the end I had to narrow it down to two extremely tight songs. Challenger A) My Chick Bad by Ludacris featuring Nicki Minaj.

Challenger B) Over- Drake

And by a unanimous vote (me, myself, and I) the winner is Over by Drake! Take a listen
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GaZsDvb1XZU&feature=related

(For My Chick Bad, check out this link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JqHliQijgvA)

Wouldn't It Be Nice

Gosh, so right now the UConn women have beaten their last four oppponents by an average of 47 points. HOLY CRAP!

I mean, I knew we were dirty...but we beat an elite eight team by 40 points lol! It was pretty funny, everyone in the dining hall is just calmly watching the game, I hear whispers of conversations like "Wouldn't it be so much fun to just shiz on EVERYONE?".

I had to catch myself because as I walk in and look at the score I was saying to myself this is a close game when we were up by 20 haha! It's just that no one is ever in our league and it's really refreshing to know that at least one of our basketball teams is playing out of their minds.

Yea son

Ahh rugburn, how I've missed you so. Nothing like that searing pain that you give me in the shower for days after you arrive.

Yeah, I got some mega turf burn while playing intramural soccer on Monday. But it was worth it! With our last game, the Iron Curtain improves to 3-0 on the season and moves into first place in our group!

We played the "Morgan Freemans", who were the only other undefeated team, in the pouring rain. It definitely affected everyone's touch on the ball though. The first goal of the game was a direct result of that, with one of our defenders losing control of the ball and then in his haste to get back, slipping and leaving it a one on one situation that their player put by our keeper.

We always start so slow, but it was looking like it might be tough to come back. Thankfully, about 5 minutes later, I made a run off of a throw in, took the ball to the box and slotted it by the keeper to tie things up. Then 2 minutes later, I took the ball down the wing, low crossed it to the feet of our center midfielder Eddy who put that away as well. 2-1.

Goals by myself, Pat, and one by Jimmy made it a much more wide open contest, finally bringing the final score to 5-1. Dibs!

Shiz Son

Dude we just got knocked out of the NIT! 65-63 by Virginia Tech nooo....

Now, if you saw the game, you might just be thinking to yourself that Gavin Edwards is a grimy, good-for-nothing, flea-bitten, lazy-eyed, no-skilled, mayor of jokeville, slim-shady wanna-be, two-timin', trashy choke artist.

Or you might say to yourself, no sir, Gavin Edwards is, in fact, quite clearly a man of no taste, flimsy arms, pea-brains, rancid body odor, chat-roulette-creeper-status punkass-betch.

Well I understand your anger at him. He did indeed miss what many might deem to be a wide open lay-up with 3 seconds to play after Kemba Walker worked hard to give him the open shot, down 64-63. However, I just want to make one thing clear.

I'm sorry. The UConn loss is actually the fault of me, Jimmy, and Pat.

See, we were walking down the steps leading away from Hilltop Suites (where we will be living next year) on Saturday, and who do we see but Gavin Edwards. The thought to jump him and save UConn from seeing him suck it up on the court occurred to us at the time, but we didn't actually carry it out. So, in an effort to make it up to UConn basketball fans worldwide, my boyz and I just wanted to apologize. Next time we see him, there shall be a brawl of epic proportions, and by epic proportions I'm not talking about Gavin's forehead.

Tales of the Iron Curtain

The Mantle shall be raised up again!

Of course, I am speaking about the Iron Curtain, our intramural spring 6 vs 6 soccer team up at UConn. This time around we have some new faces, besides the original crew (Pat, Jim, Jimmy, and yours truly) we have the Albanian Maniac Eddy who is our lock-down center midfielder and coming out of the 'Bury a solid right wing back named Dave.

Our first game was Sunday at the Shenkman Center. We showed up as a team pretty nervous, we bumped up to the "A" division which many regard as the toughest league since good teams usually drop down from Open. We checked out our competition as we walked in...they were a big team. Picture this. 6 of the most typical frat kids you can imagine, most likely seniors, all tan and big in retro NBA jerseys. None of the colors matched the actual teams colors, like baby blue laker jerseys, etc.

I started sizing their team up...ok, well it was likely that most of them had little soccer experience, but if they were soccer players in high school their size could give us fits. I decided to start our team with a two defender, three midfielder approach so we could really shove it down their throats, and I sat the bench to start. The Iron Curtain looked great the first 5 minutes, attacking on all cylinders and really putting a lot of pressure on these guys, clearly only one or two of them had any soccer experience.

I got in the lineup, and after another 10 minutes of scoreless play with countless opportunities for us, they countered and scored a lucky goal off the post. Frustrated, we fought hard to score, and finally found the back of the net when I picked up a defensive miscue and buried it. 1-1.

With one minute to go before half, the ball popped out to Jimmy who turned on the jets for a one on one with the keeper, giving us a nice 2-1 cushion at the break. We regrouped, talked strategy, and then came out and played possessed to put a beating into these guys 9-2 for a final score. Jimmy led the scoring on the day with five goals, Pat had two, Jim had one, and I finished with one. It was a great effort for our first game and gave us some good confidence to carry into the season. The frat guys were good sports about it and didn't get pissed off.

Bout to do mad work this season, we're gonna be scary good!

Quick Hits Part 2

Dude, so I was right on a couple of upsets. Definitely called #13 Murray State over #4 Vanderbilt, got the Cornell pick locked down (they looked illy), and I was hella pissed that San Diego State lost by 3 to Tennessee or else I would have looked like a boss. That Houston pick was way off, but hey that's why we gamble on it haha.

My bracket at this point is completely shaken up, the only way I can win money now is if God is like, "yo lemme hook my boi Steve "Move Your Feet" Brown up right quick, feel me?" So it's whatevs.

Here's to it becoming even more chaotic with upsets for the rest of the way on!

The Hangover

Everybody's been there. You wake up after an epic night of partying feeling like Kimbo Slice just laid you out like a silver platter, and all you can think about is why did I have so much to drink last night?

Well, I had one of those mornings this past Saturday, and decided to write a little about this new theory I've been concocting.

Regarding the Road to Recovery for Hangovers, there are a couple of levels that you have to pass.

First Level: The Sitting Up Stage
Explanation: It may or may not be well known, but standing/sitting up too quickly after drinking can result in high levels of puke-age. I'm usually wicked dehydrated at this point so I'm not tryna throw up some valuable liquids. Usually I grab a water bottle or Powerade and try to get some hydration goin on.
Status: 5% recovered

Second Level: The Jump Down, Walk Around Stage
Explanation: For those of us who suffer from sleeping on the top bunk bed, the last thing you want to do is propel yourself off the bed and jolt your whole body. I'm all about getting on my sloth grind and doing as little physical activity until I'm back to 100%.
Status: 20% recovered

Third Level: The Sacred Shower Stage
Nothing is more soothing than the feel of running water cleaning away various odors and grime that may have collected over the night. This is perhaps the most important stage, as it also signals the start of a new day, a threshold of sorts lol. Usually it should last about twice as long as a normal shower.
Status: 75% recovered

Fourth and Final Level: The Breakfast Club Stage
Here's the part where you get some life back into you. Go to breakfast, grab some fruit to get those nutrients back, talk about what happened last night with the Bro-bots, and shoot the breeze. With this and the Shower you should be back in business in no time.
Status: 100% recovered

There ya go, I recommend drinking water before you go to sleep to nullify all of this!! Now, if only I could follow my own advice...

Drama at Gampel

I got to witness another UConn embarrassment, er I mean win today. It was much-needed, especially with sibling rivalry stakes at hand! I mean, I've already lost cousin-rivalries with Kathryn and Syracuse lol so it was the least God could do.

I walked in Gampel Pavilion to see...maybe at most half of the people who usually show up. No one in the upper bleachers. And a bus-load of Northeastern students dressed in red.

See, UConn students are so embarrassed to be in the NIT, no one really cares enough to go to the game. Ergo, I got to sit in the lower student section, DIBS! It was a recipe for disaster from the start though; UConn's coming in reeling from a crushing defeat to St. Johns (WTH?), depressed not to be in the NCAA's March Madness, and Northeastern coming in amped to play with the big dogs. The atmosphere was really lax, like a scrimmage. More and more people trickled in as the game went on.

The crowds were getting into it quite a bit...Northeastern's fans are pretty uppity. They chanted a couple of stupid things at us, like Sit Down when the tv timeouts happened, and the "oh-so creative" SAFETY SCHOOL lol to which we responded with "BC REJECTS."

*Authors Note: I mouthed the words, I do not condone the degradation of Northeastern in any way :D *

In short, we went down early, fought back for an eight point halftime lead, lost it and went down about seven, before climbing back in it thanks to a late run to win by two. We missed two chances to ice the game on one-and-one's with less than a minute to go, and NU actually threw up a legit three pointer ftw (it floated there for an eternity) before it clanked the side iron at the buzzer. CRISIS AVERTED. So here's to a continued run in the NIT!

Random Memory

I've been spending a lot of time with my grandparents lately, and one of the first conversations that I can actually remember was with my grandma. I remember I was probably about in that 4,5, maybe even 6 range. Her mom had just passed away, and being the innocent little guy that I was, I didn't quite understand the concept of death. To my knowledge, death was to put it generally, sad. Everyone that knows someone that died in my eyes was always sad, and thus death was sad. =/

So I saw my grandmother sitting at the table, looking pretty sad and I remember my mom trying to make me understand the gravity of what had happened. I went up to my grandma, and told her I was sorry (as far as I can remember), and then with a deadass serious look on my face, I promptly asked her if she had died by walking off of a cliff like in Looney Toons.

Another thing I knew about death: If one were to fall off a cliff like in Looney Toons, then you could bet your ass that you were going to die lol!

Thankfully, my grandma thought it was funny lol and I got a laugh out of her ftw lol

But yea, random memory.

I slept over their house on Wed. to keep my grandpa company and watch some old movies with him lol, solid night, solid night. The cousins will appreciate this; there was a Frank Astaire and Ginger Rogers Marathon on, and at the start of the show Papa would be like, "Oh, I think that's Fred Astaire. He was a great dancer let me tell you."

And then fall asleep.

And then wake up and watch the end of the movie. "What's on next? Oh this looks like a Fred Astaire movie, Ohhh he was a very famous dancer back in my time."

Cue him falling asleep and re-waking once more lol. "Oh is that Frank...no what was it Astaire, Fred Astaire that's it. He was a famous movie star when I was growing up, boy I'll tell ya *insert indiscernible jabber* great dancer."

haha Gotta Love It!

Relative to, and or including, that which shall be coined as "Bunked Beds"

Current Mood: Suspicious

Just a random thought I had last night lol...

Bunk Beds have been following me around throughout my whole life, much like how stank follows around Taco Bell eaters. I only have one conscious memory of living life sleeping without a canopy (of sorts) overhead, a fact that dawned on me last night while crawling into (what else?) my bunk bed. For those of you that don't know my sleeping situation in the past, I've always had the bottom bunk while Geoff preferred the top bunk.

Being on the bottom bunk is pretty sweet in my opinion, easy access to the ground, etc. However, it does play with your head a little bit. See, I don't know if it is just my bunk bed at home, or what the deal is, but every time Geoff used to climb up the ladder into bed it started creaking like a madman! Definitely enough to make me deliberate my chances of survival through the night should the top bunk somehow fall down onto me haha! Like, I cannot say enough how often I used to have visions of the top bunk crashing down on me and finding myself having to use superhuman strength to throw it off of me and escape ahhaaha. I'm surprised it lasted this long, here's to another couple years of holdin' up the Browns!

Up, Up, and Up

Current Mood: Refreshed

I do enjoy company when I am falling asleep, having always lived in a room with someone, and with Geoff on his way back to Boston and my cats being intolerable creatures I turned on Old Reliable...aka TV.

I came across the 82nd Annual Academy Awards and decided that this show would do, and started to settle in for the night. As it went on though, I became more and more interested in who would take home the awards for Best Actor/Actress in a leading role and also which movie would win Best Picture of the Year. I've seen Avatar and I was hoping that another movie could dethrone it because I honestly wasn't as impressed as some of the knucklehead high school kids that go crazy about it in their facebook status'.

In short, I stayed up and watched most of the Award Show, which defeated my original goal of getting to sleep early. It was so worth it though! For those of you who did not see it, the Best Picture actually went to The Hurt Locker (never seen it) and Best Actors/Actress went to Jeff Bridges in Crazy Heart (never seen it) and Sandra Bullock in The Blind Side (never seen it either lmao shoot) respectively. It's really cool how they announce the Best Actor and Actress though, because they bring out five celebrities to talk about how awesome they are to work with and basically wish them luck one last time before the award is announced, making it pretty emotional. Cool Beans

Anyways, time to talk about my favorite part of the night, which brings me to the point of this post. The Category: Best Score, which in effect is best piece of music written by a composer for a film. Before they announced it, they had this sick portion of dancers that were dancing to the songs, like I wish I could find the video it was tight. Up took the crown home though, as well it should have, that song is so insanely sad and happy at the same time. It is truthfully the rightful winner and I don't think a more apt song could have been used for that movie. Congrats Woot!

UP FTW

Back in the 2-0-3, Ya Got The Cultivatin' Music That's Been Captivatin' Me

Spring Break is finally here! And it has brought along with it some nice weather, I had to take off my coat today, who would have known?

This past weekend has been mad funny, Thursday night I'm going to have to say was unfortunately, another shit show. However, it was epic as (insert expletive). How could it not be when there is the reunion of Steve "Move Ya Feet" Brown, Geoff "Look Out Below!" Brown, Jimmy "Jamby Jamb" Albert, and Conner "Big C" Early?!?!

*Author's Note: I think if you've heard the story these names will be extremely amusing, as I am dying right now typing them up lmao!*

Friday was fun too. It started out as a really chill day with my brother and Conner, just shootin' the breeze, doing some homework, skyping, etc. We were cracking up all day, and then we headed over to North to mingle with some of the girls that were still here for the night. And to wrap up a great couple of days, we ordered DP Dough, calzone extraordinaires (check out the zones http://dpdough.com/). Good stuff.

This break I'm all about studying for my exams this first week back. Biology and Nutrition, bring it on baby I've got all day! Mostly though, I want to catch up with my family and of course some choice friends that have some time to spare.

I shall part from this post with...a post of my own. Here is a link for a youtube video on Will Ferrell in the Wedding Crashers. I've been dying from the line about the hang gliding thing. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=15kR9tBBjlo&feature=related

Calling All Bro-bots

My brosef Geoff is coming up tomorrow! And Conner will be making an appearance too! It would seem as if the NH4 is being reunited for a night of knuckleheaded-ness!

Workouts

Yeah, so spring is almost here and the Brown Athlete (get it lol? lame) in me is really starting to get anxious for some reason. I feel like I need to do some serious working out! I've gotten a lot more jacked since the start of college, but now I want to also retain my running prowess because I've neglected leg workouts really (most boring part of the body to workout imho). Sooo more for my sake than yours I am writing up a tenative draft that I will be starting as soon as Spring Break ends.

Mondays: 1 mile, 2 100 meter dashes

Tuesdays: 1 mile, running-slow jogging alternatively at each 100 meter mark.

Wednesdays: 2 mile route across campus

Thursdays: Break

Fridays: 1 mile, plyos

*Wednesdays can be substituted for playing soccer or basketball with the boys.

I realize if you're looking at this as a high school athlete, that this is not very strenuous at all, but keep in mind I still want to maintain/gain weight lol (currently at around 152 pounds, trying to get past that 160 mark, gained 12 pounds since college dibs!).

Gotta get in shape for soccer season!

Nostalgia

I've been having a bit of a bout of nostalgia. A couple of things I just wanted to throw out there:

1) Those Legend of Zelda games were the shit. Truthfully, I want to replay one of them for N64 so bad. Beating those temples and getting all the masks in Majora's Mask is so sick haha and the music is tight! I wish that was the soundtrack for my life lol, get some of this going walking to math class would definitely spice my day up ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=znio6fc7Wfo ) Actually my first memory or Zelda has to be attributed to the Manni Family playing Ocarina of Time at the Broderick's house one christmas. The spiders were pretty creepy and I remember being enthralled with Link going into this big tree. That and WWE vs NWO lmao !!!

2)Another thing I really want to get into again is the game Oblivion on Xbox 360, basically WoW offline. Hours of gameplay thats just really sick lol.

3) I actually just erased my white board, but this quote has been up there that I know looking back on I'm going to crack up about. It goes a little something like this : "I, known as Legacy, am henceforth the coolest of those that will enter the room of Pat and Brown. *heaven curse mark* lmao

The story behind that is pretty funny. Basically, one night out on the town at Carriage I got split up with Conner. I re-find him about thirty minutes later in the walking down the road, and as were heading back down the street, somehow the topic comes up that Conner can do a somersault. Some drunk dude next to us (although I'm not gonna lie we were just as bad as he was) is like...."DUDE!!! YOU CAN DO A SOMERSAULT!?!"
Conner: Yeah
Drunk Dude: Hey this kid's gonna do a somersault!"

At this point a crowd forms and starts buzzing excitedly

Conner (getting wrapped up in the building fervor):You want to see me do a somersault!!!!!!!!
Crowd: Yeah! Do it!
Conner: ALRIGHT!!

Conner makes a big show of it and the crowd starts chanting "somersault! somersault! somersault!" He then proceeds to perform a cartwheel lmao. People started yelling hey thats not it! I can do that!

Conner, realizing his mistake, yells out again YOU WANT TO SEE ME DO A SOMERSAULT!!>?!? and the crowd, growing larger by the second, yells out YEAH !

He gets down, does a somersault, and the crowd goes nuts as if it's the hardest thing in the world to do lmao. Some asshole yells out, HEY DO IT BACKWARDS and the crowd starts chanting the like. He goes on and makes a big show of it again and does it, promptly hitting his head very hard on the concrete. Like it was so loud. But the crowd was lovin it and he became an instant hero. People were just comin up to him going like YO ITS THE LEGACY , and HEY THERES LEGACY, LEGACY! So he was a temporary celeb lol! Dibs

Shit-Show 2010

I stumble into my dorm room late Friday Night with my head spinning. Why did I have those 14 Wendy's Chicken Nuggets again?

Ohhh right, because they're the bomb diggety, duh!

Conner follows suit soon after and "beached whale's" it on my floor. Hygiene always takes precedence, regardless of inebriation of any sorts, so I decide to give my face a nice exfoliation (of sorts). I come back to the room still feeling like crap and grab some always clutch plastic bags just in case the worst happens, and climb up to my top bunk.

Three minutes later, the worst does indeed happen. I throw up in the plastic bag ftl *shakin' my head*

I lean over the side of my bed and look at Conner..."Yo...I just threw up."

His response: He throws up as well. I feel like I set of a chain reaction hahaha.

This describes my lowest moment of UConn partying this year haha!

Basically, as the title denotes, it was a shitshow. Conner and I, being teammates after three games of the FIFA Drinking Game, had set up to play Pat and Jimmy. In our defense, we were definitely feeling it from the start of the game, and we were defeated by a score of 8-1 (yikes lmao). It was a historic loss, at times Conner was pleading them to "stop scoring for the love of god!" haha and it was tough to see the screen by the end of it. Thus set the table for the previously mentioned events to happen lmao.

Now, don't be concerned because I don't usually get like that, that was actually the first time I've been that bad and I was just finding my limits. Probably won't happen again for a while. It was mad funny we were joking around at the start of the night like "Yo Im about to get Autistic tonight! Bout to drink away that extra chromosome" etc etc, Who Dat? , Etc lol and I guess one could say mission accomplished haha shyttttt

At the risk of sounding like an alcoholic (which I'm obviously not), it was mad fun though ahaha.

Phewwww

Thus ends the wave of first exams haha and ya boi is got his game face on ! Bout to go hard the rest of the way FTW

lol whatsup people!

So, spring break is coming up, and with it comes spring weekend 2010! We at UConn already have our T-Shirts lined up, with our slogan "Been There, Drank That" certain to describe a raucous weekend. We've got two pretty mainstream bands coming to play at a concert, the first is the rapper known as Kid Cudi, and the other one is Jack's Mannequin. I'm pretty fine with the idea of both of them. Cudi's not really my ideal rapper, but it's still a catch. Plus I like Jack's Mannequin, and so will the biddies hahaha!

SoOoOoO yea -_-

Ski Trip

It was time to reclaim my throne as King of the Mountain a couple of days ago, when I went skiing with my buddies Pat, John, and Jimmy. Unfortunately, I should have been more specific with myself on how to accomplish this--like not plastering my face all over the mountain hahaha.

Yes, I did in fact wipeout multiple times. But! I did manage to get down a double black diamond without falling by the end of the day so that was pretty sweet. One of my wipeouts was so intense that I bent the pole at like a 60 degree angle haha! Had to bend that sucker back and continue stayin on my grind.

I do think that this day of skiing rekindled my interest in the sport, if I can manage to spare the money, I'd like to go and grab some cheap skis and boots so I can go more often.

My roomate, Jimmy, and John are all dirty skiiers, even to my untrained eyes. Definitely will have to put in the time to catch up to them, if possible.

Interesting Note: I saw two black skiiers at Stratton!!

A Scene from My English Class

Here's a scene that happened in my English class yesterday:

Teacher: "As all of you know, your paper is due on Friday. However, it's kind of a gray area deadline because I won't be reading your papers Friday Night. Wanna know why?"

Class: *puzzled stares* "Why?"

Teacher: "Because I'm goin out Friday Night that's why! Maybe I'll take a look at them Saturday afternoon, but I will not be reading them Saturday Night, wanna know why?"

Class: "You're going out Saturday night?"

Teacher: "You're damn right I'm goin out Saturday night. *pauses* Now that I think about it, here's what I will be doing Sunday. I'm going to wake up, smoke some cigarettes, read the newspaper, heck maybe go to mass, and thennnnn I'll take a look at your papers. So, just make sure that it's in before I read them."

Smartass Kid: "What if it's not in before you read it?"

Teacher: "Then you fail. And that will not look good on your report card when there's a big fat 'F' on there. *reconsiders for a second* Actually, I've never given anyone an F before."

Random Kid: "How many D's have you given out?"

Teacher (thinking): "Hmm...nope I've never given any D's."

Another Kid: "What about C's?"

Teacher (thinking again):"...there was one C."

El Fin.

Groundhogs Day

Man, that is one amazingly cute groundhog. I want one. Legit.

Idk about that name though...what is it, Punxsutawney Phil?

Honestly?

Literally?

Truthfully?

Realistically?

Really? ...That's his name? Shoot, why isn't it something sweet like Doctor Winter or Groundy the Groundhog. Whatever

Well, the result is....6 more weeks of winter. Noooooooooooo! How you gonna do me like that Phil?

Texas Who?

Verfluchte Schizer! (Effin Crap in German lol)

Dude so this post is hella late! I lost some steam in the whole Blogspot thing, but I'm coming back with a vengence!

Basically, Saturday was sick becuase UConn knocked off #1 seeded Texas at our home court!! I was there!! I rushed the court!! I was so close to the players I could rub their sweaty heads! (I didn't but my friend did...whatever man dont judge lol). The security guards were like "no...please dont rush...stop...we wont let you..." as we ran by lol forget them! Watch me do me playa

Then of course the campus was buzzin afterwards, party city y'all!

Kickin' off Spring right

First Weekend back...it was quite a good one. I am kind of hesitant to going crazy partying this semester, but you know--as is the duty of any self respecting UConn student--partying the first weekend back is a necessity.

Friday Night was pretty sweet, more of a chill night than anything else. We finally implemented this drinking game that I have been dying to try...the official FIFA drinking game!! Basically, every time we scored, we drank. And we scored. A LOT.

At least, that's what happens when you're Brazil and you're playing a scrub team like Leeds United lol!

So that was a fun start to the night, then we decided that it was an absolute necessity to go to the Student Union and grab some Wendys. Crispy chicken nuggets go a long way to satisfying a late night hunger aha, and we managed to grab dinner and a show: as is customary of UConn's late night tradition (which is meant for sober fun, which was ironic), they were doing karaoke!!

Now, there are some pretty weird people reppin' late night karaoke's mantle. Take our most popular singer, Brittney for instance.

Close your eyes. Picture a girl that has the look of a crabby two year old that didn't get her happy meal. Now, add 200 pounds and about an extra 4 feet to that girl, and you have roughly a decent outline of Brittney. Now, picture her singing such club-bangers as "Get Low" by Lil' John and Eastside Boyz, and "Lip Gloss" by Lil' Mama. Yeah...

It was just hella funny lol. I won't go down and mention every single funny character that went up, but I will mention one extremely random character. During someone's rendition of "Everybody" by the Backstreet Boyz, this straight up gangsta black kid goes up on stage and starts nodding his head to the beat. If you ever ran track for North Haven, I'll put it to you like this: a more grizzly-but-less-well-kept Omar Whittington. Basically, a poor man's Omar Whittington.

Anyways, the kid had on one of those American Eagle fuzzy hats and was constantly eating a tub of ice cream. Like, a legit tub. He was doin serious work too, scooping at a furious rate of roughly 25 scoops per minute! He was constantly looking around too, really paranoid almost lol like it was weird hahaha. We thusly dubbed him "tubby" and he made several appearances throughout the night, even dancing to Soulja Boy with his ice cream tub lmao. Stange, strange *shakin my head

I'm about to catch some Zzzzzz but I'll update the rest of the weekend soon!

Pumped for this Semester!!

Dudes, Dudettes, Dude-lets.

I'm pumped for this semester! I had Biology yesterday which looked alright, should be my toughest class. Calculus however looks like it might be really easy, and even better is that my English class looks like it will actually be interesting! I've got a chill, male graduate student so he won't be bitching at everyone all semester and the best part is he's from Waterbury haha reppin' the bury.

So, all in all my classes look tight. Holla!

Nutrition and Shytttt

What? Oh, word? You don't speak English? You just got off the boat? Wait, say that again?

These were roughly my thoughts when I first heard my Nutrition teacher, Ock Chwan (sp?) speak this morning at approximately 8:01. Like honestly, wtf haha cut me some slack I'm tryin' to do work this semester homie!

Nah, but on the real though my teacher seems really nice despite her lack of skills in the vernacular area. Another bonus: as long as I stay on top of things it looks like this class will be an easy GPA booster! Woot!

I'm not sure how I feel yet about the girls in my class...like, they are extremely hot for the most part. However, that means I am going to have to shower to look like I didn't just roll out of my bed in sweatpants at 8 am which means I would have to wake up much earlier. Pros and Cons my friends, Pros and Cons.

Also, the only other class I had today was an FYE (First Year Experiance) which is a one credit class. The teacher was absolutely phenomenal, really gets people talking ya know? Plus, the class all seems really nice, so hopefully I meet some cool people to expand the "web" haha. GOT EMMMMMMM

Other than that Pat, Samir, and I all snuck into this Futsal game that was going on at EO Smith, and it was pretty sweet. Holla.

Back at UConn

Spring Semester 2010 baby!

I am back at school feeling really refreshed and ready to kick some @$$ this term! My break was great, I got to see some people that I don't usually get to see and I had a great time!! The only downer was that I got a bit sick the last couple days before I went to Boston and I never really got to say goodbye =/

Speaking of Boston...WOWWW lol such a great trip!! We really partied quite hard and showed them how North Haven does it haha, Conner came up too. All of Geoff's friends are really nice, and they are definitely really down to earth for such smart people (he lives in the honors dorm). Overall I was really impressed with Northeastern.

I changed my schedule a little bit, I am going to take Nutrition instead of Chemistry, partly because the Chem I wanted to take was full and partly because I want to see if I have any interest in switching majors to Nutrition. The first class that I had today was actually my first 8 am ever!!! FML...I know that's gonna be my hardest test getting up for 8 hahaha but the class is fun! So, who knows. More later

EDIT

Of course, my lovely cousin Jennie was a clear high point of my trip to Boston!!! We actually had a lot of fun picking out her outfit, no homo, (Dammit Kim!!) lmao. Although we didn't go to breakfast the next morning with her, that was mainly my fault in picking a bus that goes back at 1 and not accounting for time to wake up after a rough night lol. Did I mention Jennie rocks?

Great Start...

Man tough times today, but that is what friends are for.

I can't really get into the situation for personal reasons, but I feel terrible about it.

I want to get it off my chest though alskjfdalsjf

EDIT: Has nothing to do with New Years party, I'll post that later lol
